Brush Clearing & Forestry Mulching in Montgomery & Todd Mission, TX

West of Lake Conroe, the pine country opens into big rural tracts and ranchettes. Montgomery, one of the oldest towns in Texas and the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag, sits at SH 105 and FM 149 near the southwest edge of the Sam Houston National Forest. To the west, Todd Mission and Plantersville in Grimes County line FM 1774, home of the Texas Renaissance Festival. It's beautiful, wooded land, and pine regrowth, yaupon and vines fill in fast wherever it isn't worked. Farmer Brown & Co. is a family land-services and beekeeping business based in Sealy, run by Henry Brown Jr. and Zanaria Brown. We bring high-flow Kubota skid steers to Montgomery, Todd Mission and Plantersville for brush clearing on larger tracts. We also relocate live honeybees, place hives for ag valuation, and sell raw local honey.

Brush clearing for wooded tracts and ranchettes

Properties out here tend to be bigger, with long fence lines, wooded draws and pastures that slowly give way to young pine and yaupon. That makes it a good fit for multi-day clearing projects. Common jobs include:

  • Underbrush and yaupon removal: opening up the understory under mature pines and hardwoods.

  • Pine regrowth clearing: knocking back thick young pine and brush that has taken over open ground.

  • Fence-line and boundary clearing: reclaiming long property lines so you can fence, survey or maintain them.

  • Ranch roads, trails and hunting lanes: opening access for trucks, feeders and equipment.

  • Homesite and barndominium openings: clearing the area for a new build and the drive in from the road.

  • Pasture reclaiming: taking back grazing and hay ground lost to brush.

  • Finish work: power raking, grading and gravel spreading for drives and pads.

Selective forestry mulching

We do selective forestry mulching of brush and small trees. Everything is ground in place into a mulch layer, so there's no burn pile and nothing to haul down a county road, and the pines and hardwoods you want stay standing. Large timber and big trees get scoped separately, and we'll tell you up front if your tract needs it. Check your deed restrictions and any county floodplain or permit rules before work starts.

How a quote works out here

Montgomery and Todd Mission are both more than 30 miles from our Sealy base, so the quote or site-visit fee is $125. Because of the drive, we're best suited to larger or multi-day projects in this area. Send photos of the brush and stem sizes, the address or nearest crossroads, the approximate acreage and the finish you want. You'll get a written scope and price, with travel from Sealy included, before anything is scheduled. Request a land clearing quote →

Live bee removal

Barns, deer stands, hollow trees and old homes on rural acreage are classic honeybee homes. We're beekeepers, not exterminators. When bees move in, we:

  • look at your photos and tell you whether it's likely a swarm or an established colony,

  • confirm the entry point, height and building materials,

  • give you a written scope that lists exactly what's included, and

  • remove the bees alive and relocate the colony to a managed apiary when conditions allow.

We take swarm calls 7 days a week. Please don't spray the bees or seal the opening before we arrive. Request bee service →

Hive placement & ag exemption beekeeping

Texas allows beekeeping as a qualifying agricultural use under 1-d-1 open-space valuation on tracts between 5 and 20 acres. This area spans two counties. Montgomery is in Montgomery County, appraised by the Montgomery Central Appraisal District (936-756-3354). Todd Mission and Plantersville are in Grimes County, appraised by the Grimes Central Appraisal District (936-873-2163), which publishes its own beekeeping guidelines. Ask your district for its current standards first. The regular deadline for Form 50-129 is April 30, and land generally needs qualifying ag use for five of the previous seven years. We'll write a hive placement and management plan and keep dated visit records. Only the district decides approval. Learn about beekeeping ag valuation →
