Brush Clearing & Forestry Mulching in Hockley & Pattison, TX
The prairie and pasture country between I-10 and US-290 is changing fast. Waller County was the fastest-growing county in Texas from 2024 to 2025, and new neighborhoods keep going up around Hockley and Waller. The acreage that's left still has the same problem it always had: Chinese tallow and yaupon closing in along fence lines, creeks and old pasture edges. Farmer Brown & Co. is a family land-services and beekeeping business based in Sealy, run by Henry Brown Jr. and Zanaria Brown. We bring high-flow Kubota skid steers to Pattison, Hockley and the FM 359 and FM 2920 corridors to clear brush and get land usable again. We also relocate live honeybees, place hives for ag valuation, and sell raw local honey.

Brush clearing for prairie acreage and fence lines
Tallow is the signature brush out here. It loves flat, wet ground, it grows quickly, and once a pasture stops getting mowed or grazed, a field can turn into a thicket in a few seasons. Yaupon, briars and vines move in along the tree lines. Common jobs around Hockley and Pattison include:
Fence-line clearing: cutting back the brush that swallows fences, so you can repair, replace or re-fence a section at a time.
Pasture reclaiming: knocking down tallow and brush that have taken over hay meadows and horse pasture.
Homesite and pad openings: clearing the area for a house, barn or shop and the drive in from the road, before your builder or dirt contractor arrives.
Creek and drainage edges: opening up overgrown banks and ditch lines where the property allows it.
Lot cleanup for sale or construction: making raw acreage presentable and walkable for buyers, surveyors and builders.
Finish work: power raking, grading and gravel spreading for drives and pads.
Selective forestry mulching
Our skid steers do selective forestry mulching of brush and small trees. The brush gets ground into a mulch layer that stays on site, so there's no burn pile and nothing to haul. We work around the oaks and pecans you want to keep. Large timber and big trees get scoped separately, and we'll tell you up front if your job needs it. Tallow tends to come back from roots and seed after cutting, so ask us about scheduled follow-up clearing.
How a quote works here
Pattison is inside our 30-mile radius from Sealy, so the quote is free. Most Hockley addresses are farther than 30 miles from Sealy by road, so the quote or site-visit fee there is $125. Either way, send photos of the brush and stem sizes, the address or nearest crossroads, the approximate acreage and the finish you want. You'll get a written scope and price, with travel included, before anything is scheduled. Request a land clearing quote →
Live bee removal in Hockley and Pattison
Barns, sheds, hollow trees, water meter boxes and the walls of newer homes all attract honeybee colonies. We're beekeepers, not exterminators. When bees move in, we:
look at your photos and tell you whether it's likely a swarm or an established colony,
confirm the entry point, height and building materials,
give you a written scope that lists exactly what's included, and
remove the bees alive and relocate the colony to a managed apiary when conditions allow.
We take swarm calls 7 days a week. Please don't spray the bees or plug the opening before we get there. Request bee service →
Hive placement & ag exemption beekeeping
Texas allows beekeeping as a qualifying agricultural use under 1-d-1 open-space valuation on tracts between 5 and 20 acres. Which district handles your land depends on the county. Pattison is in Waller County, so it's the Waller County Appraisal District. Hockley sits in Harris County, but Hockley mailing addresses can fall on either side of the county line, so your land could be under the Harris Central Appraisal District or Waller County. Check your tax statement, then ask that district for its current beekeeping standards. The regular deadline for Form 50-129 is April 30, and land generally needs qualifying ag use for five of the previous seven years. We'll build a hive placement and management plan and keep dated visit records. Only the district decides approval. Learn about beekeeping ag valuation →
